GALVESTON -- Galveston Sheriff's Deputies believe they have solved the mystery of what happened to a missing 2 year old Mentor girl. Texas authorities say they arrested Riley Ann Sawyers' mother and stepfather. They also say "Baby Grace" has tenatively been identified as Riley.
Kimberly Trenor, 19, and 24-year-old Royce Clyde Zeigler, have been charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence.
The pair had been living in Spring, Texas, after Kimberly moved from Mentor with her two year old daughter, Riley Ann Sawyers last May.
Kim told relatives that a social worker from Ohio took the child away from her last summer. However, no social service agency confirms her story.
"If we had thought for one moment that Riley was in danger, or that Kimberly was unfit in anyway, the department of human services would have been invovled," says Laura DePledge, Attorney for Robert Sawyers.
DePledge recieved a call from Texas authorities as well as the FBI regarding the arrests. Riley's family recieved a call to come to the Mentor Police Department around 3 p.m. on Sunday.
"Obviously it isn't very positive information that they recieved today and I am sure they are very distressed."
Investigators executed a search warrant on Kim Trenor's home in the 6800 block of Enns Lane in Spring, Texas Saturday afternoon.
Bond has been set at $350,000 for Trenor and Zeigler.
